Abhinav Bindra made a controversial comment on Sourav Ganguly
In an individual event in Indian history, Indian ace shooter, Abhinav Bindra made a controversial comment on the rise of Sourav Ganguly as a manager in an interview with Bengali daily Ei Samay.
The 34-year old shooter was eliminated from the 2016 Rio Olympics in 10 m air rifle category. He was asked by the reporter that whether he would want to go into sport administration. In response to that, Bindra said that for rising through the ranks in sports administration he may need to be involved in politics and he don’t want to do that.
Bindra commented on the example of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President, Sourav Ganguly that, “Who said Ganguly is not involved in politics? I am aware that he is a political sports administrator. You should know how he rose through ranks as an administrator.”
It might be possible that Bindra is still frustrated about his elimination from the Olympics. He even wants to pursue a career in vegetable farming by selling his rifles and even he went on to ask the journalist whether there was an opening to cover Tokyo Olympics 2020 as a correspondent.
Bindra was the flag-bearer for India in the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics 2016. He was one of the most deserving Indian athlete for a medal. India are without a medal in Rio Olympics till date, though several Indian athletes still carry the hope of millions.
