The Toyota's Land Cruiser, a popular, reliable, and durable four-wheel drive vehicle, has sold over 10 million units globally since 1951. It is known for its reliability, longevity, and all-terrain capabilities, available in various body styles. The Land Cruiser Series models are renowned for their exceptional performance and continuous improvement over the years.

1967 – 1979 (50 Series)

The Toyota's Land Cruiser FJ55, introduced in 1967, was a robust 5-door station wagon with a practical interior featuring a glovebox, AM radio, and instrument cluster. The FJ was a six-seater car with a 3.9-liter inline-6 petrol engine, available in Type F and Type 2F configurations, and a 4-speed manual transmission. The Ford Bronco, Jeep Wagoneer, and Land Rover 109 series 2 competed in markets, with Land Rover 109 series 2 being more serious due to similarities and off-roading capabilities.

1980 – 1988 (60 Series)

In 1980, the 60 Series Land Cruiser was introduced with a new design, offering space efficiency, comfort, and flexibility, with available powertrains including 4.2-liter inline-6, 3.4-liter inline-4, and 4.0-liter inline-6. The 60 Series, alongside competitors like Blazer, Jeep Cherokee, and Defender, boasted unique styling, improved ride quality, and powerful engines, with the Prado being a luxury model.

1989 – 1997 (80 Series)

In 1989, Toyota introduced the Land Cruiser 80 Series, featuring improved safety technologies, improved styling, and a quiet interior with seven comfortable seats in a 2+3+2 configuration. The vehicle featured a standard 4.0-liter inline-6 petrol engine, with options for a 4.5-liter (1FZ) petrol and 4.2-liter diesel engine, and was available with either a 4-speed manual/automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. The 80-Series competitors included the Mitsubishi Pajero, Ford Explorer, and Range Rover Classic. The Pajero was more competitive, offering features like the Land Cruiser but was cheaper. It had a state-of-the-art interior, seven seats, and was available in SWB or LWB wagons.

1998 – 2006 (100 Series)

In 1998, Toyota introduced the 100-Series Land Cruiser, featuring a spacious, luxurious interior with standard and optional features like cloth upholstery, air-conditioning, and high-end audio, and an Active Height Control system. The standard engine was a 4.7-liter V8 DOHC 32-valve petrol or a turbocharged 4.2-liter inline-6 24-valve diesel, with a 4-, 5-speed automatic, or 5-speed manual transmission. The 100-Series faced competition from the Range Rover P38A, Mercedes G-Class, and BMW X5. The P38A had a powerful, but less efficient engine, comfortable seats, and airy cabin. The Range Rover, BMW, and G-Class were more expensive and unreliable.

2007 – 2020 (200 Series)

The Land Cruiser 200 Series, introduced in 2007, featured a redesigned frame structure, improved durability, and enhanced interior comfort. It offered features like heated steering, USB ports, leather upholstery, and a high-end audio system. The model was available with a 4.7-liter V8 petrol engine.

The 200-Series, a luxury SUV, faced competition from the Range Rover L30, Audi Q7, and Mercedes GL Class. Despite its luxury interior, all-aluminum monocoque, and powerful turbocharged 3.6-liter V8 diesel, the 200-Series gained popularity due to its reliability, spacious interior, robustness, and price.

2021 – Present (300 Series)

Toyota's Land Cruiser 300 Series, launched in 2021, is built on a TNGA-F platform for durability, reliability, and off-road prowess. It features driver-assistance systems, advanced technologies, and improved safety. The cabin is spacious, with seats covered in cloth or leather. Available engines are twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 petrol or 3.3-liter diesel.

The LC300 faces competition from the Range Rover L460, Mercedes GLS-Class, and BMW X7. The X7 is spacious but lacks off-roading capabilities. Both have modern features, V6 engines, and modern driver assistance. The X7 is more expensive, while the LC300 is more reliable.
