The Triveni Express is also popular by the name ‘The queen of Sonbhadra’. This train runs between Shaktinagar or Singrauli and Bareilly, joining these two places together. This train derives its name from the famous ‘Triveni Sangam’ of India, which is the meeting point of three rivers. These three rivers are The Ganges, The Yamuna and The Saraswati (which is a dead river now), which meet at Prayag, which is in Allahabad.

More about the train

Previously Triveni express used to run between Lucknow and Allahabad, which later got extended to Singrauli and then Bareilly via Hardoi and Shahjahanpur. This train covers a distance of around 723 kilometers and takes an approximate time of 19 hours to complete the journey. This express train has 32 stoppages among which the important station halts are Mirzapur, Allahabad Junction, Lucknow and Shahjahanpur.

From power to historical significance

Shaktinagar is a small town located near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. This place is known for its thermal plants and the energy these thermal plants produce is around 98 percent with having the largest thermal power generation in India. The coal is mainly supplied from the nine sources around this town including Nigahi, Khakri, Bina, Khadia, Dudhichua and Jayant. This place is also commonly known as the “power Capital of India’.

Bareilly, on the other hand, is located on Ramganga and is the seventh largest city of the Uttar Pradesh state. Long back in 12th century, this place was ruled by the Rajputs. Later people from Turkey invaded this place, and even later, it became a part of the Delhi Sultanate.

If one goes by the facts of Mahabharata, the Epic, this Bareilly was previously known as the Panchal Rajya, which was the birth place of Draupadi. Lord Krishna named her Panchali as the name of her birth land suggests.  The local folk stories have a different thing to say. They believe, that Gautama Buddha once came here in Ahichhatra; which is the ancient fort city situated within Bareilly. This place is archaeologically very rich because, there are still the remains of Ahichhatra, which was a huge fort and are of a great historical significance. This is also the richest terracotta zone in the entire India. People have dug and found some exquisite pieces of terracotta works from Ahichhatra. Some huge terracotta human figures were also discovered while excavating here.

It is also said that, Bareilly was founded way back in 1537 by Basdeo who was a Rajput and a Kshatriya. This place also has significance in modern history. This place was the centre of the 1857 rebellion or the Sepoy Mutiny. It is during this rebellion, the Muslim natives of Bareilly, Bijnor and Muradabad raised their voices for the revival of Muslim kingdom.

This Triveni Express joins two cities, which has two different significances. While one being a small town producing a huge amount of thermal power, the other is the place of historical significance. The culture and the uniqueness make them stand apart.
