Any manufacturer who plans to sell some product to customers apart from using an online platform will definitely require some type of label for identification and marketing. The type of label you will require will greatly depend on the product you are manufacturing; there are different labels for cosmetic products, toys, foods and beverages etc. This will require that you choose between the different types of labels that include double sided labels, freezer labels, warehouse labels, piggyback labels, and durable labels without forgetting barcode labels.

Business people who choose the wrong type of label will definitely waste their time and money and in some cases potential customers. Some parameters you need to use in choosing the type of label to use on your products include: whether the product will be subjected to extreme temperatures or sunlight, whether it is a long term or short term product, whether there are factors such as rough handling, chemicals, or wet conditions that could affect your product, the shape and size of the product and whether the product’s visual appearance is an important selling factor. The answers you give to these questions will determine whether you will use small, big, oval, rectangular labels or those made from paper, vinyl, see through, laminate or not, easy to remove or extremely sticky.

A good example is those selling wine where the label actually becomes part of what is being sold. Such a label needs to look elegant and have as much information as possible without appearing crammed. Such a product will do well with a double sided label where one side carries legally prescribed information and the other side carries your sales promotions. Since a wine bottle is likely to be exposed to different types of weather conditions and circumstances a water proof label would be the best and it should be flexible enough to fit easily in the cylindrical shaped bottle.
A person selling ice cream on the other hand will need to get a label that will not easily smudge, get torn or crack and get off when the product is placed inside a freezer; they type of adhesive used for such a product label will also need to adhere to those conditions. When dealing with products where your marketing style plays a big role or direct marketing is involved then a piggyback label is what will help you out and appeal to your potential buyers; they won’t mind answering any mail that doesn’t cost them money.

If you are going to give your product to retailers the issue of barcodes comes in since it is the easiest way for them to sell your product. You don’t want to spend on labels that cannot accommodate barcodes because they won’t be read by the scanner. You must always verify that your labels are scannable before you order mass production otherwise you will end up losing money and may be the trust of retailers. There are specific barcode labels that you must use if you want to remain in business. While you should expect the label manufacturer to know these things, you have no option but to follow what is going on because any mistakes will cost you more than just money.
