You will obtain the option to upgrade the seat in Delta while booking the flight in the Trip Summary section.
You can also log into the SkyMiles account and upgrade your existing reservation.
Seat upgrade is possible by using the Miles or Miles + Cash.
Complimentary Upgrade for Medallion members
Medallion members with a travel companion obtain the benefit of the unlimited seat upgrades with or without automation.
You can automate the upgrades and get complimentary upgrades just by selecting a seat from the seat map in the upgraded cabin.

You have to pay a fee for upgrading the seat in Delta if you are upgrading the seat by using the cash or a combination of cash and miles.
