This express train connects katihar to our beautiful city of ‘Golden Temple’ Amritsar. Amrapali Express 15707/15708 is an express train from Indian Railways, which runs from Katihar in Bihar to Amritsar Punjab. The 15707 train departs from Katihar for Amritsar and the 15708 returns from Amritsar to Katihar. The train has got excellent service frequency as it is a daily operating train. The train covers 1,799 kms in a time span of 37 hours with an average speed of 48 km/hr.15707 departs from Katihar Junction daily at 23:30 hrs and arrives at Amritsar at 12:30 hrs after a 37-hour journey while 15708 departs from Amritsar daily at 07:15 hrs and arrives at Katihar at 20:10 hrs after a 36 hours 55 minutes journey. The train is mostly reported to be running on time with minor delays if any.

How did it name?

Interestingly the train has derived its name from two Sanskrit words ‘amra’ and ‘Pallava’ which means young leaves or sprouts. Amrapali was a nagarvadhu of Vaishali in Bihar some 500 BC ago. She was given this name as she was found below the roots of a mango tree. And years later the Express acquired this rich historical name.

Initially, the train used to run between Kanpur and Samastipur but later it got extended to Barauni. Within few years, the train got its extension from other end too, which was from Kanpur to Delhi. In 1992, it was further extended to Amritsar and later on to katihar which are the present source destinations of the express.

The route:

Presently the express cover major 50 junctions and halts in its long journey including the departing and arrival stations. The route followed by the train covers major stations such as Jandiala- Jalandhar- Phagwara- Ludhiana- Ambala- karnal- Panipat- Sonipat- Delhi- Aligarh- Firozabad- Kanpur- Lucknow- Barabanki- Gorakhpur- Chhapra- Hajipur- Mujjafarpur- Barauni. These are the major stoppages where the train halts for more than 5 minutes. However, Ludhiana, Delhi, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Chhapra and barauni junctions are the one where train halts for 10-15 minutes.

The Expressis currently equipped with AC-2 Tier, AC-3 Tier, Sleeper class and General Coaches. It runs with an accommodating capacity of 22 Coaches. However, the train which has a long route to travel lacks an in-house Pantry car. But never the less the glitch can be overcome by e-catering services at your rescue.

Also, the train fares are quite reasonable without causing a deep burn to your pockets. For a sleeper coach ticket, the charges are Rs. 670, for an AC-3 Tier ticket the charges are Rs.1800 and for an AC- 2 Tier ticket the charges are Rs. 2640 for an adult while the senior citizens can avail the tickets at themuch lesser rate. The train does not charge any superfast charges as its speed is below 55 km/hr.

The train in all gives a hassle free experience and smooth journey as it is never overcrowded because of its daily connectivity. That also gives a benefit of easy availability of seats during urgent booking requirements. The train can have a score fairly good on parameters of punctuality, safety, and cleanliness.
